New: Sonivet and tendon clinic at British Dressage Northern senior camp 2014August 8, 2014
Curar were delighted to be invited to demonstrate Sonivet at the BD Northern Region senior summer camp at Aike Grange Stud last weekend.
In conjunction with BD Northern, Curar launched their "Horse leg talks" this week, starting with a tendon clinic. This was a free interactive workshop led by Helen Oxendale and Helen Floyd from Curar. The talk started with a quick review of the structure of a horse's leg, which was followed by a short video that built up the ligaments and tendons on a foreleg. This demonstrated how complex the anatomy really is and highlighted where the more common injuries can occur. Helen O, a qualified radiographer and experienced rider, described some of the more common injuries and how they are diagnosed, explaining the different techniques and when they are used.
The final part of the workshop described some of the current research and the current therapies available. This included Sonivet, a relative newcomer to the veterinary field. Sonivet delivers a specific low intensity ultrasound (LIPUS) signal that accelerates the healing of equine tendon and ligament injuries, enabling an earlier return to normal activity, while also reducing re-injury rates. Sonivet is non-invasive and is applied to the injury for 20 minutes each day for an average of 30 days, depending on the severity of the injury. After discussing Sonivet, we held a short practical sessions, which provided a great opportunity to apply Sonivet and put the theory into practice!
